Faith: Laughter Makes Good Medicine

I try to remember to take time to smile and laugh regularly.

Proverbs 17:22 tells us, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth bones.”

Laughter is an amazing ability that God gave us all. Laughing helps us cope with sadness and the pressures of life.

A new teacher was trying to make use of her psychology courses to help her class. She started the class by saying, “Everyone who thinks you are stupid, please stand up!” After a few seconds, little Johnny stood up. The teacher asked, “Do you think you are stupid, Johnny?” “No, ma’am, but I hate to see you standing up all by yourself!”

This is one of my favorites. A couple had two little boys, ages 8 and 10, who were excessively mischievous. They were always getting into trouble. Their mother heard that the new pastor has been successful in helping children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The pastor agreed but asked to see them individually. The mother sent the 8-year-old first thing in the morning and the older son to see the pastor in the afternoon. The pastor was a huge man with a booming voice. He sat the 8-year-old boy down and asked him, “Where is God?” The boy’s mouth dropped open, but he made no response. He sat there with his mouth hanging open and wide-eyed. So, the pastor repeated the question, “Where is God?” The little boy jumped up and bolted out of the pastor’s office. He ran directly home and found his older brother. The older brother asked what happened. The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, “We are in big trouble this time. God is missing — and they think we did it!”

Hopefully, this will make you smile. Stop and take time to enjoy all that God has done for you. He is not missing.
